Every truck driver must, by law, carry out a total of 27 checks inside and outside of his or her vehicle every day before setting out. You may not have to be so thorough, but there are a number of checks all drivers should make.
Check your seat and mirror positions, particularly when more than one person uses the car. You should wear comfortable flat-heeled shoes. Without stretching you should be able to place your right foot flat on the floor under the brake pedal without unduly depressing the seat.
Make sure your mirrors, windows and outside lights are clean and your windshield washer tank is topped up.
Check to see all your lights are working and you have enough gas. It's a good rule to never let your tank get less than half full, particularly during winter months.
Inspect your tires regularly to be sure you are not heading for a flat, and that they are properly inflated and wearing evenly. Make a periodic check of your spare to make sure that it is inflated too.
