Night driving can be tough going, particularly in the winter when snow, sleet, salt and dirt on the windshield can further limit your visibility.
Always keep your windshield washer containers full of fluid and if your wiper blades are not working properly, replace them. It's a good idea to carry at least one spare jug of washer fluid in your trunk.
Clean the inside of your windows regularly... particularly if you or your passengers smoke.
Make sure your lights are working and are clean and aimed properly. It is dangerous and against the law to drive with any of your lights not working.
Resist the urge to look at the light of oncoming vehicles. Look UP and STRAIGHT AHEAD, beyond and slightly to the right, of the approaching lights.
Switch to low beam lights when you are within 150m of an oncoming vehicle or 60m approaching someone from behind. If you suffer from glare try to use divided roads so the oncoming vehicle lights are further away.
If you are on a country road dim your lights when approaching a corner or a hillcrest so you can see oncoming motorists and avoid blinding them.
If someone flashes their high beams on it probably means you have forgotten to dim your lights. Dim them. If someone puts his or her lights off on then on again it probably means you have forgotten to put your light on (this is more common in a well lit urban environment).
